What a wonderful weekend!

For the first time in 2 months I've been able to have a complete Sunday off. No Sunday school, youth group or, for that matter, church. A weekend where I can relax and let everything move without too much input from me.

Having said that, I'm as tired now as I would be after a weekend of running around and having to attend meetings. How can a weekend away be so tiring?

Ok, so I let the wife share the driving but, some would say surprisingly, I did not have to fear for my life, resort too prayers for deliverence or have to see my life go flashing before my eyes. See, she is improving. Or my diabetes medication has unhoped for side effects.

Sis covered my Sunday school class for me. A grand total of one person attended. Are we disheartened? Well.... someimes.... maybe....

For the next 2 Sundays I have to combine my youth and sunday school duties with preparations for my next preaching date at the end of October. The venue is being kept secret to avoid the attention of groupies, hangers-on and the many hecklers out there. So now I'm adding prayers for clarity and brevity for my time of sharing the word.

The one thing I've noticed in all of the work I do are the waves of apathy that envelope you. In somethings you get the "Well done. Great message" responses but no practical application. As I look around I wonder ehat has happened to the body of Christ.

It seems that much of the body is starting to decay and lose functionality. The living vine is dying. Yet there are parts that seem to be producing so much fruit that we're in danger of creating an EU Faith Mountain. Why is there such a disparity? (Answers on a postcard please to the usual address.)

However the one thing I have learnt is that you don't realise the results of the work until you stand back, prefereably a very long way back. Then you suddenly find ways that you have made an impact. Ok, maybe not in Billy Graham numbers. Then again, for all his preaching, he will tell you that it is the folks on the ground who Christ lives through daily who have the greater impact.
