I'm trying to dig a charter airline out of the perverbial, so apologies for the lack of a rant.
History Today :
1441 : Jan van Eyck died today. He was famous for being a painter of the Flemish school. They only had the one in those days and he won the contract to decorate it.
1540 : The marriage of King Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves is annulled after 6 months.
1553 : Lady Jane Grey is proclaimed Queen of England in succession to Edward VI. He died 3 days earlier.
1877 : The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club begins its first tennis tournament at Wimbledon.
1900 : The bill bringing the Commonwealth of Australia into existence receives its Royal Assent today. The Commonwealth comes into being from 1st Jan. 1901. That's another burden lifted from our back. You'd think they'd be grateful but, oh no, they're almost as bad as the Americans.
1932 : King Camp Gillette, inventor of the disposable safety razor died today. That name alone is worth his inclusion.
1988 : Barbara Woodhouse, celebrated dog trainer, died today.
