Daytime TV

Working from home has a very serious impact on my sanity.

Thankfully I'm one of those people who can multitask and work while having the TV on in the background. Daytime TV has always been a pet hate of mine but now we have Sky I'm able to watch things that I actually like. However it comes at a price....

Adverts!!!

Not just any adverts but charity and loans really get my goat.

Purple Loans. Lombard Direct. Ocean Finance. Freedom Finance.

Then, just as you get over these you get:

Oxfam. Sponsor a Dog. Water Aid. NSPCC. Cancer Research. RSPCA.

The thing that I really laugh at is the fact that there are so many adverts aimed at people with money problems. Just borrow more to help you get out of debt. A great Oxymoron. You are in debt that you can't control. Therefore you borrow more over a longer period. Do it properly and you may never actually pay the money back.

Then you have the charities.

Do they purposefully target you during meal times?

The human ones don't really effect me. Yet put a cat or dog on the screen and I'm reaching for the direct debit mandate. Maybe its because, to a certain extent, I'm immunised against suffering in humans after all the news reports and documentaries I've seen. Could all the violence and suffering on TV actually act to build up your immune system against feeling anything?

I contribute to as many causes as I can on a regular basis. I give to collections on the streets by certain organisations. I give time to help via church or for Tearfund. Yet I always feel that I need to do more.

Maybe I should just give up work and spend all my time helping others. Unfortunately, then I won't have the necessary money to contribute to others. Maybe I'll find a way to balance my life in future.

I certainly hope so.
