Yesterday was extremely enjoyable.
FW and I had decided to inflict my presence upon her friends in Hole By The Sea. For me its like Badger bating, wihout the badgers. I don't mean this in a bad way. Its just that I get to exercise my brain for fairly intelligent people.
First of all we decided to stop off to look for a new sofabed and armchair. We got 50% of what we wanted. However, instead of an armchair we came away with a 2 seat sofa. Well my rationale was that the sofabed is smaller than a 3 seater and the 2 seater was only slitghly bigger than the armchair and almost the same cost.
Upon arrival we visited Limited Film Buff, who is preparing to move. Then over to visit an Invertebrate with Bite and the Abbotted Wombat. We had an interesting evening of relaxed conversation before I had to bid an early farewell.
Then came the journey home....
I really, really support public transport. I truly belive that we should all use it more often and that it should be affordable. It should also meet the needs of the traveller. The biggest benefit of the car is that its the only real form of door to door transportation.
Well I walked to the railway station. Thankfully I managed to catch the last train from Hole By The Sea to Crapital City. This leaves at 9:35 in the evening, on a Saturday. I paid for my single ticket and checked that I'd meet a connection to finish my journey.
10 minutes into the journey the very nice conductor came back to tell me that there was no connection beyond Crapital City. We would arrive 20 minutes after the last train to Oldrum left. I could go to various places in the valleys but not to my destination.
Thankfully, for me, there was an affordable form of integrated transport I could get. I was lucky enough to save the £20 taxi fare that I could have paid as arrived in time for the last bus from Crapital City.
The journey home took 3 and a quarter hours, as against 1 in the car.
To make matters worse I couldn't get to sleep until almost 4 in the morning. So I slept through the alarm and missed chapel. The whole reason for me coming home.....
