Strangers in the night, Going nowhere

Last night proved to me how bad it is to live in a rural community. My home during the week is not completely rural but the nearest town of any size is 10 miles away.

Last night I decided that I'd take the opportunity to watch the West Ham v Arsenal match on Sky. As my landlord doesn't have Sky Sports the only option was to go to a nearby pub. The only problem is that the only 2 pubs in the village do not have Sky.

So I drove 10 miles to the village I used to live in. The pub here always had the football on when I lived there. Now its under new management and they don't show he football anymore. Neither do they seem to have any customers.

So off I went to the local social club. Closed for a private function.

Then to the next pub. They had a darts match on so couldn't have the big screen on.

At this point I decided to give up. Bought a Chinese and headed home. Once I arrived I found I had the house to myself. Turn on the TV and tune into the sport radio stations.... no coverage of the game on any of them.

I had to console myself by watching Sandra Bullock and flick teletext on and off to update me on the score.

Even backwards Wales - as its called up here - has a greater choice of venues to watch sport than rural Warwickshire. Its not like the locals are at the Swan Theatre every night, watching Shakespeare.

For those interested; today's headline is brought to you by way of Saxon's "747". Part of the metal revival from the late 70's early 80's.
