Amid all the stories of war, murder and divorce on the news today the above stood out for me. I absolutely adore Penguins. A visit to a zoo is a disappointment for me if I see not Penguins or seals/sea lions.
Such an intriguing headline also made me read the story. For a start I wondered if Penguins had been able to overcome the obvious biological hindrances and actually learnt how to drive. Unfortunately the story was worse than that.
There were 21 Penguins being transported from a zoo in Indianapolis to Galveston when there refrigerated truck was involved in an accident. 1 died instantly and 3 others were run over by passing cars.
Now I'm not, despite what FW thinks, an emotional man but stories involving harm to animals always gets to me. Massacaring people, murder etc doesn't effect me that much. Over the years I've come to accept this as part of the human condition but something like this always strikes me.
Do I value animals above humans? No. Humans have the ability to fight back but most animals don't.
