Have you ever wondered at the lunacy of big Global companies? They are held up as examples to all of how to do business well.
I am based at a subsidiary of the biggest conglomerate in the world. They are, unsurprisingly, American and vie with Microsoft as to which is the biggest by capitalisation on the NY Stock Exchange. They are into everything from light bulbs to medical equipment to wind turbines to aircraft engines.
They have had an urgent shipment that needs to be in Fuerteventura by tomorrow. Its been ready since Monday morning but hasn't moved. Why? Because they spent 2 days contacting every shipping agent in the UK except for mine. I'm based at the premises and could have shipped it but was told that another subsidiary were sorting things.
This afternoon I received a call from my local office to tell me that they had been called by a company in Prague asking us to move the parts. I was therefore left to sort it out. It took 6 e-mails and 2 telephone calls before I discovered who had the required documents to make the shipment.
The parts will not arrive until Friday afternoon as there are very few flights into Fuerteventura, especially during the autumn/winter months. Yet the power station needs the parts as they need to do urgent maintenance.
If you hear of a power station ceasing to function there then you'll know why.
