I've just found out that Iwao Takamoto has died. For those unaware of Mr Takamoto, he is the man who created Scooby and Muttley. He also worked on The Flintstones and The Jetsons.
He created Scooby after meeting a Great Dane breeder who described the features of a Great Dane. Iwao decided that he would actually go the opposite way with Scooby. Scooby therefore has bow legs, a big chin, a hump back and is the wrong colour.
I had the pleasure of meeting Scooby at Universal Studios, Orlando in 1993. No, he is not a cartoon character but a real dog, I even have pictoral proof.
RIP Iwao....
