The Dead Are Helping Save The Climate

Jesus maybe the only person who physically rose from the grave but musicians, especially those of a modern ilk, have been carrying on with their careers despite being corpses.

Jimi Hendrix has just released a new soft drink that captures his taste. If it's true to his life then you too could become a drug taking guitar superstar by drinking it. The Beatles released new songs after John Lennon's demise and Elvis still releases albums.

So why the title?

Well, one of my heroes, Jim Morrison, is helping to promote the Global Cool campaign. He has already released one album of new material since his death, An American Prayer, had a hit with Fat Boy Slim, Bird of Prey, and is now releasing another new song.

Woman in the Window is an unreleased poem that tells about an angel warning humanity about its actions. Obviously this is the perfect way to launch a new campaign and garner publicity. I for one salute any attempt to further the music of Jim and help save the planet.

Global Cool aims to get people to save 1 ton of CO2 emissions per year by the usual means of turning off lights and other electrical things. The hope is that this will give time to research new renewable energy technologies before we all die of heatstroke or the next "hot" age (well you have ice ages!).

They are also aiming to raise money to buy carbon credits on the carbon market. They will then hold these credits and hopefully force manufacturing companies to reduce their carbon footprint. This is also the aim of Equiclimate, one of DEFRA's 4 approved carbon offset schemes.

So for me, this is a win win situation. More is done to publicise the drive to reduce global emissions; the humanity is bought a little more time and Jim Morrison has a new record for me to buy. Plus I have an ethical reason to part with my money to add to my CD collection.

Whatever happens planet Earth will survive. Humanity may not. Hopefully, by that stage, Jesus would have made His own comeback appearance and we'll be playing harps and singing hymns for eternity.
