I passed 5000 hits yesterday evening. For a blog that's written in rants and occasional moments of depression that's not bad going. Some would say that this proves that people will post, and read, anything on the interwebnet.comthingy. I prefer to see it as a sign of intelligence in others....
I am thinking of becoming the part owner of a railway. No, not a model one but one with real trains that go toot! toot! Every week I drive past the GWR (Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway) in Toddington, near Cheltenham. Its the steam railway that you hear at Greenbelt every year. I see the trains and coaches parked up on the line and always think that I must stop but, due to time constraints, never do.
Since extending the service to Cheltenham Racecourse they're now looking to extend northwards to Broadway and Stratford but need funds. So I thought that £10 a month would be a small price to pay to see this come true and to be able to say that I part own a railway.
Railways are important things to me. I've had a lifelong love of trains, thanks to my mum and dad, and would love to see them return to more widespread use. I don't care whether its steam or diesel so long as they're running more often to more places. In these times of environmental concern an expansion of the rail network would be a good way of reducing car use.
If there was a reliable and frequent rail service then I'd be only to happy to cut back on my car use.
