Time To Think

The thing I love most about Monday is the 2 hours I get to spend relaxing in the car. It gives my mind chance to wander while watching the rest of the traffic disappear in my wake. This is enchanced because the first 20-30 miles of the journey is spent out of range of a mobile signal.

It's a great way of meditating on life's vageries and problems. Any problems are quickly put into perspective and slowly disappear, usually before I get to Tewkesbury. That leaves me with a clear head as I driver up the M5 or across to Ashchurch for the scenic route to the factory.

Today I managed a quick 5 minute loo break at Strencham Services and decided to read The Times for 10 minutes before I continued onto the office.

There was an interesting story about the government's decision to restrict access under the Freedom of Information. It seems that too many people are finding out too many things that they want hidden from our eyes and knowledge. It had a list of 59 things that would have stayed secret. My favourites are:

The Thatcher government concocted a plan to search for the Loch Ness monster using a team of dolphins.

Politicians are spending £2.2bn a year on management consultants.

200 serving police officers have criminal records for offenses that include assault, theft and vandalism.

Six British military policemen died because nearby reinforcements decided it was too dangerous to go to their aid.

Cherie Blair is the first Prime Minister's spouse to receive an official government car and driver.

Countries with poor human rights records were targeted by the Ministry of Defense as the most lucrative places for British arms companies to sell weapons.

Is it any wonder that they don't want us to find out exactly what's going on?
