This weekend was a nice and quiet one.
On Saturday we had a slow start and then had the Troublesome Trucks over for the afternoon. I managed to see most of all 3 rugby matches, without ignoring them. We assembled the new table football game we'd bought for them and spent a few enjoyable hours playing together. Not only did the boys enjoy it but so did FW.
We sat down for tea and the Wales/England game which, you may know, Wales won. Yes, the only game we won in this year's 6 Nations Championship was against England. :-O
Saturday evening was spent watching the bits of Comic Relief that I'd missed the night before. I thought that the Catherine Tate sketches were great but my favourite was the Ricky Gervais appeal. Absolute genius!!! We enjoyed it so much that it was 1:30 before we got to sleep.
We decided that Sunday would be a day to try a new Chapel. We've only got 2 more Sundays before we leave my spiritual home of the last 30 years. I think it was time to start looking for another.
Unfortunately, due to our late night, we got up too late to go to the morning service at any of the chapels on our shortlist. Not only that but the newsagents was closed so I missed my Sunday Times as well. We had another slow start but I got to watch my recorded West Ham/Blackburn match on Sky. At last we won a game. Wooo!! Hooo!!
Sunday evening saw us going to one of our shortlisted chapels. It is a typical Welsh Baptist Chapel inside and outside. It is very different from the 1950's building that we currently worship in. For a start it has a very efficient heating system that blow drys your hair as you worship :-)
FW was a little troubled by the lack of decoration inside. It is after all a very functional place of worship with plain walls and decoration on the woodwork. The side pews were very uncomfortable so we'd moved into the centre on the comfy seats. I don't believe that worship has to be undertaken in total discomfort and pain.
The minister was very friendly and came to so hello after we'd sat down. The congregation was small but had a high proportion of young people. This is very different to our current chapel which has a highr proportion of elderly people.
The minister was young and this would seem to be his first chapel. He was a little too academic in his delivery but that'll soon get knocked out of him. I'd say that he was very different to our current minister, who's also in her first chapel.
The members were very welcoming and inquisitive and made us feel very welcome. They also have several midweek meetings, including one for primary aged children, one for toddlers and a prayer meeting. There is also have a shared coffee morning with the Baptist Chapel a few doors down as well. We didn't say that we were looking for a new home but felt that we'd definitely visit again.
We'd also received a call from our current church secretary enquiring about some Fairtrade items. She also asked why we hadn't been at chapel that morning. There was a very definite sound of negativity to her "oh...." when told that we were looking to visit one of our shortlisted chapels instead.
