Well I'm back.....
Have you ever seen someone with a grin like a Cheshire Cat? Not as big as mine was earlier I bet. I have seen motoring perfection but never ridden in it before. The Aston Martin Vantage Roadster is Porn for Petrolheads. You can keep your Ferraris and Mercedes and Porsches. For me an Aston Martin is everything I could desire in an automobile.
The Vantage is not the top of the Aston Martin range, after all its only a V8 but man it looks sexy, it sounds sexy and it drives like a dream. Well I can only assume the last point as I had one of Aston's Production Managers driving me round. It was everything I had ever dreamed of though.
The feeling you get as you are pushed back into your seat as it accelerates is something else. The sound from the V8, even when moving at 60-80 MPH is awesome. Yet at low speeds there is almost no noise at all. It knocks a Ferrari into a cocked hat. The throaty crowl of a top sports car is a wonderful thing but you don't want to upset the neighbours as you drive down your street.
The inside is classy and roomy. The seats seem to mould themselves to you and the dials are easy to read. Seeing that counter move from 30 to 80 in the blink of an eye is amazing. It holds the road really well but for a big car feels more stable than my little MX5 (Miata to you Americans).
There is one very big draw back......
This car costs more than our house did.
Maybe I could sell the house, the wife and the cats and live in an Aston.....
However the best is yet to come. I have a track day to book in an Aston Martin DB9 yet. I've also been promised a ride in the new DBS soon as well. This is the car that will see Aston give Ferrari a real run for its money.
If I can work out how to link Flickr to my blog I'll post a photo of what this car looks like. It is the sexiest thing I've ever seen - well apart from the Wife and Meg Ryan, of course.
