Holiday Part 2

Tuesday saw us taking our time to get to the hotel we were meeting the rest of the party at. We stopped off at Heathrow as I needed to sort some things out for work. Thankfully it was with some friends we know so we had the chance to catch up with them. Then it was off to get the car cleaned. Some people don't seem to realise that my car is a "working" vehicle and not for weekends only.

We drove down to the hotel but had a little difficulty finding it from the provided directions. It didn't help that it was actually on the opposite carriageway. We settled in and waited for contact from the organiser, who was leaving Wales about an hour after we arrived at the hotel. While we waited I got the chance to begin watching the Chelsea/Liverpool match.

Then I got the chance to watch the entire match as we heard nothing from them. When we finally left the room the Little Chef, a chain of motorway diners, on the complex was shut. So our evening meal consisted of a pasty, crisps etc from the petrol station. Mmmmm high class cuisine.

We had a text to tell us that we were meeting at 07:30 the next morning to drive down to the ferry. We therefore decided to get up at dark o'clock to have breakfast in the Little Chef first. There we met the first of the Owners Club and got to know them. As I was paying I received a call from the organiser telling me that he was leaving within 5 minutes, with or without us.

We'd never met anyone before. This was because the club runs are done on a Sunday and always took place when we held our youth meetings. We didn't get much chance to talk as we were straight onto the road to get the ferry.

It was a surprisingly good crossing. The ferry was first class and the crossing was very smooth. Sea France have a great reputation for their ferries but a terrible reputation for the food on board.

My next installment will cover the drive to Amsterdam.
