Life's A Breeze

Life seems to be dealing some funny cards at the moment. Most of my life is nicely squared away but there are a few curveballs in there.

Firstly, Best Man is still in hospital recovering from his "non-stroke" stroke. He is slowly improving but has a long way to go yet. It is very difficult for me to visit him because of work but I try to get in at least twice a week. I find really difficult because I hate hospitals, with real passion. Not as much as shellfish but not far short.

Secondly, my Work Colleague is stil not baclk at work full time. This is partly a blessing and partly a problem because....

Thirdly, Mini Me announced toady that she was leaving. She is finding it difficult to cope with her job. It is not coming as quickly as she wants it too and she feels frustrated that she hasn't got any control over the situation. It also seems that she doesn't like working in an office and wants to go back to working in a shop. So, a week from tomorrow she goes. In some ways its a pity and in another it means we can find someone who wants to work.

Fourthly, I need to find more time to visit the rest of my family. It doesn't help that FW has been working most weekends. at least that ends in 2 weeks time, so we'll have our weekends back.

History Today:

1944: The Allies march into German after crossing the Luxembourg-German border. Things were to stall due to the winter and the failure of Operation Market Garden.

1973: A US backed junta siezes power in Chile.

1978: The Cold War breaks out on British streets as Georgi Markov is stabbed with a poisoned umbrella by an unkown attacker. He days four days later. Just like a Bond or Le Carre story.

1997: Voters in Scotland approve the creation of a Scottish parliament in a national referendum.

1998: Kenneth Starr, the Independent Counsel appointed to investigate the behaviour of President Clinton, publishes his report. It lists 11 potential impeachable offenses.

2001: Coordinated terrorist attacks are mounted in the US using passenger aircraft to fly into targetted buildings. The World Trade Centre and Pentagon are hit. 2973 people are killed.
