We have returned from our travels to deepest, darkest Dorset. I must say that on several occasions I thought that we would return with a smaller party than we left with. I now stand confirmed in my belief that could not be a parent. It has been brought home that I have neither the patience nor energy to cope with children on a permanent basis.

Don't read to much into this with regards to the boy's behaviour, they were very well behaved; in fact the outlaws said that they were a credit to their parents. No the deficiency lies with me. I think that after 40 years of batchelorhood I learnt that adapting to married life was not without its own trials. Without any doubt I am a person who needs to have their own space to relax and unwind. With children this would disappear.

Many parents say what a blessing their kids are and how much more complete their lives are. To this I say a resounding.....

LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE.

Give me space, peace and quiet any day of the week.

I love my nephews but I love my peace and quiet more. Its hard enough having to work for a living without having to work at bringing up children as well. For those who do it you have my admiration and eternal gratitude. You are obviously either made of sterner stuff than me or have a codex in your DNA.

However we did have an enjoyable time though somewhat spoilt by the rain on Saturday when we should have been swimming in the sea. However they, together with FW, had a lovely time rolling about in the sand between showers.

We also had several trips on the Swanage Railway and the boys enjoyed making their silent movies for FW. Not even the rain put much of a dampener on the festivities. They also got on very well with the outlaws. It was the first time that FW's folks had seen them as they'd been unable to attend our wedding, due to illness, and missed the boy's in their suits.

They also made friends with a nice elderly gentleman in the Christian Bookshop cafe in Swanage. They were very good and showed no uneasiness at being approached by an unkown person and engaged in conversation about football.

However it was good to get home again.

p.s. Smudgie, we did wave on Friday night and Saturday from Swanage seafront but couldn't see you waving back.
