Yesterday's blog entry was substituted shortly after being written following my reading about the think tank report. So, as more has happened, I'll redo the original entry.
We have been having problems with BT and our phoneline. I paid our monthly bill in 2 parts and they decided that they'd restrict our service to outgoing calls only. So I've called several times since Monday and left responses on their automatic menu system to say that we'd paid. The system recognised that we'd paid and promised that they'd reconnect us within 24 hours. That was 4-5 days ago.
Since then I've spoken to our local call centre to report the lack of connect. As with several multinational conglomerates, BT maintain theior call centre in Delhi, Bangalore or some other place on the sub-continent. My fisrt call yesterday was met with the response that the guy's system was down so he couldn't help me. However he could get someone to call back within 24 hours.
I pointed out that this was unacceptable and so he transferred me back to the queuing system. The next person took my details and promised that the line would be reconnected in the next "few" hours. That was at abot 3:00 yesterday afternoon. Still not line by the time we went to bed at 11:00 last night.
At 10:00 this morning I called again. Again I reach India and am told that the request was not in the system. Then it went quiet while the young lady rechecked my account. When she came back, about 10 minutes later, I was promised that the line would be reconnected within 4 hours. I asked her to note on my account that if it wasn't then I would be transferring my custom to Sky instead.
So guess my surprise, or lack of it, when it had still not been connected at 3 this afternoon.
So I called again. This time I got a person in Liverpool, which I believe is not in India but has an equally odd and hard to understand accent. Now I found that reconnect took from 4 to 10 hours and that I should be reconnected sometime today.
So I shall hold my breath and wait and see. In the mean time I shall be contacting Sky.
