Let There Be ROCK!!!!

Last night saw the resurrection of that 1970's cash generating machine Led Zeppelin. They were indeed Monsters of ROCK!! Yet, with the exception of Live Aid (where they performed dreadfully), we have never really had a full blown reunion.

Page & Plant got together for an MTV "un"plugged performance and they did do a subsequent tour and album but Plant has always be reluctant to revisit, what many believe to be, his greatest success. Instead he has worked to carve out a new, lower key career for himself. Now he makes the music that he wants and does what makes him happy.

Of course, the announcement of their "one off" reunion with all 3 surviving members, and John Bonham's son, has led to ceaseless calls for a full reunion tour from the media and fans. The extent can be seen by the fact that there were 9,000 pairs of tickets for last night but over 18 million people applied. So there is definitely a guaranteed fan base there to be served.

Personally I hope that they do not do the reunion tour. We have enough groups trying to cash in on past glories as it is. Many never record anything near the quality of their past output, see the Rolling Stones for example. They carry on to fill up their pension pots and appear more like a tribute band than a real one. Some groups are even touring with as few as 1, or even no, former members. Others tour without the figurehead who made them great. Why would anyone want to see ELO without Jeff Lynne?

If Zep do tour then I will be buying a ticket.

I just hope that they don't. I would hate for my memories of Zep to be sullied by a poorly performed tour, that their hearts were not in. Leave us with the DVD's and albums to see us through. After all you don't need the money do you guys?
