Going Down

One of our customers went into administration on Friday. Yesterday 14 people lost their jobs and the remaining 70 don't know how long they'll be in employment. So far they've been told that they'll only be guaranteed a place until the end of January.

The company have been near to this before but managed to bounce back. In 1999 they were the largest employer in the town and named as one of the UK's fasest growing companies by the Sunday Times. Now they're close to going under.

What makes it worse is that the signs have been there for some time. I will say that they managed to avoid going under in the run up to Christmas and managed to pay the staff. At least that's a small mercy.

I'm hoping that a buyer will be found, as they have a very good product to manufacture and sell. They sell significant quantities in the US, Italy and Ireland but orders from the US have dropped off recently.

Let's hope that there is a white knight out there somewhere who will recognise a promising opportunity and run the company properly in the future. If for no other reason than that the staff deserve some good management for once.
