Sermonising Pancakes

Today is a happy day as we welcome the return of Pancake Thursday to the house (fingers, toes, arms legs etc crossed).

The wonderful thing about being a non-conforming, non-conformist is that things such as Lent are not observed in our sector of the Christian faith. Therefore we're never under pressure to give up chocolate, alcohol (for those that drink) or any other "bad" thing. As such we are also able to move Pancake Day (the other obvious reason for celebrating Lent) to any day we choose - or need to. Now I don't have to contend with feelings of guilt because I'll be 2 days late Lenting.

I do like the idea of Lent though and have decided to follow Tearfund's Climate Fast as my contribution. FW will dislike this as it means that she'll have to turn lights off in rooms she has left and it gives my an excuse to nag her about it :-) In addition it also gives me a (smug?) feeling of selflessness as I'm doing something for others rather than myself.

Today is also a day of procrastination. I am sermonising in a new chapel on Sunday evening and am suffering a little from preacher's block. This is not unusual, normally eveything comes flowing through on the Friday or Saturday night in one almighty outpouring. I'm trusting that this happens again; on no account do I want to revive a previous one - that would be cheating in my book. If no one else noticed, I would!!
