Apologies for the long delay since the last blog - there are two main reasons for this:
1. the presence of much rain here in Royston, meaning the ground has been waterlogged and not suitable for anything including digging. We are considering starting a watercress and/or cranberry farm. It has only become workable (the soil that is) in the last week.
2. You may have read about the fire in an underground corridor containing fibre optic telephone cables somewhere under central Manchester. This was not an elaborate April Fool - i've no idea about the fire, but our phones (all three of them, due to our mobiles being connected to O2) didn't work from Monday until yesterday. I missed the internet so much! We've had the police camping out at the railway station in case anyone needed anything. It was a bizarre (but not entirely unpleasant) feeling knowing that we were cut off from the outside world.
Anyway, despite all attempts blogging is back on. Plus broadband has now been installed at work (in the middle of the phone crisis, CA's phones were all still fully functional - what does that say about the providence of God / the requirement to keep employees fully employed?) so in the future much speedier blogs can be expected.
And the garden? Well, I dug the raspberry bed on Tuesday and we have ordered both raspberries and strawberries. C has started on the spud bed, as the seed potatoes are spouting nicely, but he's found more clay so we're off to worship at the temple of B&Q. That and it's raining again, and they do have a nice coffee shop in among the pressure sprayers...
