Wrote the following when i was very fed in a class that was asking the wrong questions!!
“What is the truth we can teach from this passage?” Why are we communicating “truth” to a post-modern context where “truth” is not what they are interested in?
Shouldn’t the question be “how does this teach me to modify my life within the context of my community to impact the world?”
How important is truth? Can we know truth? Why are we obsessed with “truth”, instead of seeing how the bible teaches a better way of life, a way of justice for all, away from the ultimate destruction of selfishness. I don’t want to ask are the gospel claims true? I want to ask what difference does it make, both now and eternally?
You can argue it’s true all you like, but it’s a pointless faith if I can argue its “true” but it makes no difference. Do I only think like this because I’ve grown up in a world that was asking the truth questions, and that I’ve assimilated that information, I’m ready for the difference it makes. If I didn’t know them already would I be looking for “truths”?
