It’s the hardest thing in the world to watch somebody press the self destruct button. You can tell them not to, you can be stern, you can warn, you can present other options, but in the end you can’t stop them no matter how hard you try. You can choose to walk away, because it hurts that little bit too much to watch it happen, or you can choose to stay and keep picking up the pieces. Neither will stop the person pressing the button till they want to. Both options will cause you regret and hurt, but in the end you have to know it is not your responsibility, it’s theirs. Love won’t conquer all but it’s amazing how much strength it gives us to cope. Cope with the fall out of them pressing the button, even if that means walking away, but it doesn’t make it easy. But we have to hang on to the knowledge it is not our responsibility, we have no control over that button. If we had done things differently they would still have pushed it.
