I wrote this on Saturday, but this is my first chance to upload it.
I would call this thoughts from the train, but firstly it is likely to be a while before I get internet access, so I may have refined my thoughts by then, and secondly this has been kicking around in my brain, but I now have time to put “pen to paper”. I have been struck recently in several different contexts the phrase “shinning like stars” to describe as Christians what we should be like. That we should be shinning in the darkness which is the world we live in. I understand the point, that as Christian’s we should be shining, an example. However it caused me to reflect on shinning stars. Recently I spent a few days on Iona, as a small Island with minimal lights on it, and a long way from any towns, there is very little artificial light. On a clear night it is possible to see thousands of stars, an amazing sight. Most of the time I however live in a city, where it is possible to see stars, but due to all the artificial light only the brightest are seen. This set me thinking, as Christians it’s easy to shine out against darkness, when it is really “dark”, we can stand and be light, and it shows. However how often do we struggle to show our distinctiveness when there is lots of “artificial” light around. How do we stand out as distinctive in these situations.

On a lighter note, I have been thinking that God often teaches us things by re-enforcing the same concept/ lesson in many different ways. If this is the case it would seem that at the moment God wants me to learn about English grammar!!
