I am English, therefore yesterday was Mothering Sunday, not Mother’s Day. The origins are different. I have been thinking about Mothering Sunday, and it’s origins. It’s about returning to the Mother Church. It’s about celebrating our unity, and yes celebrating Mothers. Yet all we think about is the mother’s part of it, which is important, but can also be a complete minefield. Maybe it should be used as a time to reflect on what as Christians we have in common with other Christians, as we remember that it is about returning to the mother church, celebrating, where we have come from. Seeing it as a reason to celebrate the contribution of those who came before us. A reason to celebrate those who we share our faith journey with, on a larger scale, not just within our own setting……..
