The cogs in my brain seem to be turning extra slowly at the moment, so this blog entry that I planned to write on Sunday, has only now made it on to “paper”. Sunday morning I was actually listening to the sermon! The minister used the following example which really struck me and set me thinking. He was talking about the 16th fresco ceilings, and that it was quite common for the “master” to draw the outlines, but that apprentices would fill in the colours, and although they would have guidelines, that it was still possible to see how the individual was reflected in the painting. This is like us with God, yes he draws out the picture, and gives us general guidelines as to what colour to paint where, but we even when following him will pick slightly different colours. It made me relax about doing the “right” thing. It nicely brought together the debate in my head between pre-destination and free will!!
In other thinking, I’m wondering as ever how to get people to see what it best for themselves. How do we draw the line between suggesting something isn’t a good idea, and being slightly more forceful? As the way life is looking likely to pan out over the next few months I’m sure that this is a theme I will return to lots!!
