How much does what we are taught as a child (or a grown up) seep in to our subconscious and effect what we think on subjects now? When I think through issues in life, in particular in relation to what I believe, I realise that I can have thought things through logically, looked at it in relation to the big picture we see within the bible, and come to a conclusion. But still a part of me says that can’t be right. I think it through and realise that it is different to what I was taught when I was little. I need to learn to think through an issue see how it plays out in real life, what the bible has to say to this situation, and come to a conclusion. When this contradicts what I was taught when I was little I need to think through why I was taught what I was, was it cultural, was it just because that was what others had been taught and not thought through. If there is a good reason why I was taught it, I need to re-examine the issue in light of why I was taught something different previously, and see how that effects the issue. I guess I need to remember that it is always worth re-visiting issues to ensure that we don’t just hold views because we always have.
