What's the story, morning glory?

So, to Rain's other question and TJ's query.

The first thing I saw this morning was the inside of my eyelids. I then spent a couple of minutes laying looking at them, while wondering whether I should open my eyes and accept that I was awake or not. When I eventually gave in and opened my eyes, I got a lovely view of the wallpaper in my room.

Under normal circumstances, a typical morning in the life of Steve works something like this:

6.30 Alarm goes off. Lie in bed collecting thoughts and listening to the news, primarily to find out if anyone notable has died.
6.33 Crawl out of bed and into dressing gown. Head to the bathroom for morning ablutions, shower, and to poke my contact lenses into my eyes (a straightforward procedure some days, a complex and frustrating venture on others).
7.00ish Get dressed, shave, try to make my hair do something interesting.
7.10ish Get some breakfast, plonk myself in front of the TV. Check the weather, put extra layers on if it looks necessary. Catch the news to make sure nobody notable has died since 6.30.
7.30 Depending on the day of the week, I will either spend half an hour praying with two of my housemates, or try to work out what I need to do that day.
8.00 Set off for the train station, hoping it's not going to bucket down with rain on the way.
8.13 Arrive at station just in time to miss the 8.13 train. Pick up a copy of Metro and look for something interesting to read while waiting for the 8.23.
8.32 The 8.23 train finally arrives, already packed with people because it's almost time for the 8.33, so in theory there are two trainloads of people on one train. Hover at the back of the crowd waiting to get on. This is a good idea for the following reasons: I work flexible hours, so it doesn't matter too much if I'm a few minutes late; if I do get crammed onto this train, I'll probably be by the door and thus get a bit of air when we stop; if I don't get onto this one, whatever has held it up has now been sorted, so the next train will be more or less on time and near empty.
8.40ish Arrive at the station before town, if the weather's good I'll get out and walk from here. It's nice to have a bit of exercise and compose my thoughts before I get to the office.
8.55ish Saunter into the office, stick the kettle on and write a list of what I need to do today. One day, I'll start with, "Throw away all the previous to-do lists cluttering up your desk".

So there you have it. From asleep to might-as-well-be-asleep, in just 2 1/2 hours.
