No ducks in Tesco!

Here is a poignant and topical story from my childhood. At a very young, not-yet-up-to-long-walks-around-a-supermarket age, my mum was pushing me round Tesco in my buggy. All the way round the shop, I kept shouting, "Duck! Duck!" Each time, mum replied, "Don't be silly, there's no ducks in Tesco!" Eventually, when we reached the checkouts, after many reports of ducks being denied, mum finally realised what I'd been trying to tell her all along - my arm was caught in the side of the buggy. "Stuck", not "duck"!

Why am I telling you all this? Well, it just came to mind because on Saturday various Ship of Fools folks (including a good smattering of wibloggers) are going on the London Duck Tour ( http://www.londonducktours.co.uk/ ). And we're all supposed to be bringing a rubber duck with us. And after much searching I've struggled to find any ducks in any shops, never mind just Tesco.

So a kindly colleague has lent me her family of rubber ducks for the weekend. Daddy Duck, Mummy Duck and the two baby ducks will be joining us on Saturday to see the sights (although theoretically both the male ducks are blind as there are no eye stickers on them, but I reckon we can still treat them to a thoroughly enjoyable day out). The excitement is building. D minus 3 and counting...
