News in brief

A busy couple of days, summarised as follows:

1) First off, I made An Important Phone Call on Thursday night, and I'm pleased to report the Exciting News was well received by the recipient (those of you doing the maths the other day may well be able to guess; the rest of you may want to ask one of them for clarification). Better than that, the Exciting News was then conveyed to someone else, a good friend of mine, and I hadn't been sure what their reaction would be. But they were pleased and excited too, so happy things all round. :D

2) Then yesterday, I went back to the doctor for a post-return to work appointment. After waiting about 20 minutes, I spent about 90 seconds with the doctor, largely along the lines of:

Me: "Well, I've been back just over two weeks, I'm feeling fine, work have been really encouraging and helpful, and the first counselling session went well."
Her: "And are you still taking the medication?"
Me: "No."
Her: "And how are you finding that?"
Me: "Fine."
Her: "OK, well we'll just stop the medication then."
Me: "Thanks. Bye."

Alright, so there was a bit more to it than that, but if I'd stuck with the first doctor I'd seen when I went there, I reckon the conversation would have been even shorter. Still, the important thing is that I'm now back to normal (or as normal as I ever was) and medication-free. :D again

3) OK, controversial one now, knowing some of the other reactions people had to it here, but (thanks to the joys of being a yoof leader - praise the Lord!) I got to see Casino Royale last night. And I thought it was great. Yes, I know many of you will disagree with me there, but I thought it made a brilliant film, and would highly recommend it. I'm not feeling in a particularly Barry Norman kind of mood, so you won't get any proper reviewing type stuff here, I'll just say I enjoyed it and would recommend it for People Who Like That Sort Of Thing. :D yet again

4) And finally... I'm going paintballing a bit later (further joys of being a yoof leader - praise the Lord once more!), as part of a really interesting day. One of the lads in the yoof group is turning 13 this weekend, and his parents have taken an idea from a book they read about Jewish rights of passage and things like bar-mitvzahs etc, and wanted to do something similar (but from a Christian context) for their sons as they enter their teenage years, so that they can get encouragement, advice, prayer support and what-have-you from the men they know and look up to. I'm quite chuffed that young J has picked me as one of his chosen role model types, and I'm realy looking forward to tonight, when we're all having a meal together, praying for J and passing on our considerable wisdom to him (I might not need long for that last bit). But first, we're going paintballing, and I expect there'll be a few stories to tell when I next drop by. :D one last time

Oh, and one piece of bad news - remember I was alluding the other day to how bad my next mobile bill would be? Well, it arrived yesterday, and it's even worse than I expected. And I reckon it'll get worse still in the next few weeks. I think I'll go to see the mobile people in January and discuss what to do about it (as in changing tarriffs or something). Still, it's a small price to pay for the happiness it brings me... Oh go on then, one last :D, you happy now?
