Mind me Christingle!

Since Rain was asking about the Christingle (as mentioned on Auntie Doris' blog), I've done a quick bit of research and have come up with this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christingle . Praise the Lord for Wikipedia!!!

Aside from what Auntie D already said about the service, I was greatly entertained by the choice of hymns and carols. Aside from the appropriate-but-still-cheesy final rendition of - oh, please God, no - Shine Jesus Shine, they were largely a mixture of classic carols and the old hymns everyone knows from school assemblies. What I was particularly impressed with, however, was the number sung to the tune of Give Me Oil In My Lamp, which opened with the line, "the Christingle begins with an orange". Which was very helpful to me as I attempted to explain the whole concept to Auntie D. The best bit, however was the chorus where, rather than "sing hosanna", we were instructed to "sing Christingle" - I think the problem was, in my twisted mind, I wanted to translate that as an instruction to the Christingle that it should start singing. Maybe that's a marketing tool they could consider for next year (it could do 'Step Into Christmas' in honour of Bishop Jeffrey "Elton" John).

Speaking of whom, our other great source of amusement was Bish Elton's instruction to "make sure you hold your Christingle upright at all times". That is, Auntie Doris was greatly amused, but I'm above such puerile double entendres... as the title of this post no doubt illustrates.
