Funky Christmas

The Christmas party season is now in full swing, which has made it even more difficult to get around to blogging. Tonight our office Christmas meal was going on, but I skipped it to go to the youth Christmas do instead. This involved around 20 or so youth and about 10 leaders starting at one leader's house for starters, going to another for main course, and then onto another for dessert. It also meant we got to, erm, "enjoy" a vast selection of those Christmas compilation albums.

Now, all this reminds me of the album I came across a few years back in a previous job. We had a temp working with us, and about a week or so into December, he mentioned that he'd spent the previous evening downloading an album called James Brown's Funky Christmas. Now, I've since discovered that this album is sort of legendary amongst muso types, but at the time I'd never heard of it. However, Tempboy sold it to me on the strength of it sounding "just like a normal James Brown album, except all the songs are about Christmas". He wasn't wrong, as we discovered when he brought it into work the next day. We put it on for a while, and enjoyed such seasonal numbers as 'Santa Claus, Go Straight To The Ghetto' (no, honestly), but eventually we were asked to turn it off, and I was somewhat relieved at that. I don't know if you've ever tried to conduct a business phone call while James Brown shouts, "OW!! HUUH!!! YEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!!" in your other ear, but it's not very easy and much less fun than you might imagine.

Anyway, with all the non-Christ-themed Christmas music out of the way, tomorrow I shall be doing the full-on carol-singing malarkey. I'll tell you all about it when I get back. Nighty night.
