The car has arrived! We went down to Southampton yesterday morning to pick it up. Despite my initial reluctance about getting a Corsa, I have to say I'm very happy with it, probably because it's a pretty high spec one - it's a CDTi with AirCon, electric sunroof, electric windows, electric mirrors etc. What also helps is the fact that it is only 2 months old with less than 3000 miles on the clock. The man at the leasing company pointed out that I was getting a much better car than I would do normally for the price I'm paying. Oh, and it's diesel as well which is a huge advantage. I filled up before we left and after the 75 mile drive back home, the needle had barely moved. At some point, I may allow myself a little self indulgence and post some pics.
Plans went a bit askew when we got home. This weekend, I was supposed to preaching at my friend S's church in North London. What he's doing is inviting a different preacher for each Sunday in Lent. Yesterday afternoon, I phoned him just to make the last minute arrangements and to ask directions to his house as I tend to get completely lost when I venture north of the river. The idea was that we were to go there last night and go out for a meal. Well, all seemed fine. Just as we were getting ready to set off, S phoned me back in a bit of a panic. It seemed there had been an almighty cock-up somewhere along the line and that he'd also invited his Area Dean to preach this weekend, and thought that I was going up next weekend. I had visions here of duelling preachers in church - the Area Dean in the pulpit and me on the chancel steps, both trying to preach simultaneously and out-do each other. I think S must have thought something along these lines too so, as the AD had already prepared his sermon (and so had I for that matter) and as we hadn't actually set out, perhaps I'd like to go back later in the year. So that's what I'll be doing. In the meantime, I have a sermon prepared for Lent 2 Year C. It'll just have to wait another 3 years before it gets heard.
