From time to time, I take part in a "Vocations Roadshow". This is where a team of three people (a Priest, a Reader and a SPA) visit a church and use the sermon slot to talk about ministry and encourage people to consider whether God is calling them to some form of ministry within the church. This morning was one of those, so last week, I took my cassock, surplice and scarf from church and hung them on the bannister at home, ready for this morning.
Our house is open plan - well, the downstairs is anyway. Just one room with the stairs going off it. The down side to this is that cooking smells are never confined to the kitchen.
Last night, I cooked a curry for the two of us (Chicken Dopiaza with Channa Dal, Cucumber Raita and Pilau Rice) and very nice it was too. Curry, of course, has a very disticnct aroma and on waking this morning, there was definitely a linger in the air of last night's dinner. When I put my cassock on at the church I was visiting, that also had the lingering aroma of last night's dinner. I wonder if anyone noticed.
This evening I started brewing my latest batch of homebrew beer. The house now smells of hops and malted barley. My cassock is shut away in a cupboard upstairs.
