Breaking and Mending

Last night I took the cover off my eMac and blew around a bit to clean the dust out, and added some more memory and put the computer back together. After finding out that the random wire with a connector on it that we didn't attatch to anything was infact the thing that makes it all work, and another mini disection I switched it on and found out that a) the computer was faster (good) and b) the screen was a wash of pretty colours (bad).

The problem didn't make the computer unusable - it would have just made it difficult to do anything that needs graphics - which means that the two things I mostly use this computer for - photo mainipulation and watching dvds - would have major problems.

So I spent all night thinking and came up with a cunning plan. I would buy a cheap pink old style iMac, rip out the brains and replace it with the brains from my eMac. Working on the assumption that the screen is a self contained unit, and it's the screen that's broken, my cunning plan should have worked. So, I decided to get up and look for a website that would tell me if my cunning plan was possible.

I switched my eMac on and it's working perfectly.

The computer mending faries must have been in the night.
