Have just spent the last few minutes trying to persuade darling R that wearing a long sleeved fleecy jumper to go and run around and play hockey would not be a good idea. Also, that she should consider wearing short socks and trainers, rather than her new sandal-style school shoes (Husband found them at the weekend).
'but I like my new shoes'
Yes, I know, but trainers would be better for running around in
'but what if someone says I'm wearing boys trainers?'
why would anyone say that? (they're not pink)
'well J did at church one day'
Well what does J know? (he's 7)
'but when those trainers get too old can I have some Barbie ones?' (pout, pout)
It depends how much they cost. (cruel mother that I am)
there was more to it than that, but I am wondering if it was just laying the groundwork for pink trainers next time...
Some annoying things about the whole conversation:
It was conducted with her pouting and talking in her small 'everyone is picking on me' voice.
I don't normally tell her what to wear, so when I do it is important.
I have to wear boys trainers as I have freakishly large feet for a girly.
It's too damn hot at to be getting this worked up over t-shirts and shoes!
We'll probably have another 'discussion' when it's time to do her hair....
