Seaweed

Hmm.... so there was an advantage to the seaweed bath this morning. The remnants lying in the bottom of the bath made perfect ammunition in a seaweed-fight with the Smudgelets. I won, if only by playing the trump card of putting on my mummy voice and saying "That's enough now" firmly when I realised the danger of the two of them ganging up on me. I also used size to great advantage, picking one boy up and dangling him upside down in the bath until he begged for mercy.... and until the other one cried "Do it to me, mummy, do it to me". Of course, these are typical boys - the thought of a bath full of seaweed filled them with delight and I was forced to leave the spider-legs in the bath for them tonight.

It's been a glorious day today. The Smudgelets were keen to go for a walk in the forest or a bike ride along the river, but they were to be disappointed. What sort of a mother would insist on children doing homework on a day like today? Maybe one who has plans for tomorrow and knows the danger of letting the children put homework off. It resulted in a bit of a sulk from the two of them, but they soon realised they'd get it done far quicker if they just got on with it instead of making a fuss. And there was a treat to look forward to afterwards.

On our way back from the hospital to take our neighbour to visit her husband, we called in at B&Q to get potting compost and two patio tubs. Yes, we have started the mammoth task of planting out our seedlings. Two pots are now full to overflowing with marigolds and pansies. Bet they've been slugged by tomorrow! My environmentally-minded little ones are keen to buy slug pellets and not in the slightest amused by my refusal. We've cleared all the leaves off the path and patio, too, so it's starting to look a bit more presentable out there, and Tiddles has started to clear all the weeds from the little garden where my apple tree used to stand before getting totally overgrown and flattened by a load of compost. This is the intended nasturtium/sunflower growing site. It was so lovely to spend the afternoon working together and playing.

The boys were delighted to see the seed trays finally empty of plants. Their comment? Now we can plant another load of seeds and start all over again! Over my dead body.

Now, if my driving license isn't in the sensible safe place where I always keep it, where else is it likely to be?
