AAAAGHH!

School still hadn't contacted me during my weekend away, so I resorted to phoning the deputy at home to see what had been arranged about my return to work. "Ah, I was supposed to get back to you, wasn't I?" Hmm, well, in a word, yes. And you can probably guess what has been arranged. Absolutely nothing.

I can have two afternoons off a week if I like, they suppose, because they are my non-teaching/preparation time anyway... and if push came to shove I could have Friday off too, though they need to know my decision tomorrow so they can arrange supply. They've organised next year's timetable so that I work mornings only, but weren't sure what to do about this term, so decided to do nothing in the hope I'd give in gracefully and go full time. Typical. I love where I work and what I do, but some of the lack of organisation drives me MAD! I was expecting to go back tomorrow, they're not sure when they're expecting me back but have asked the supply teacher to do tomorrow and Wednesday so would I please not start until Thursday, if that's what I'm doing. Hmm... if I have Thursday afternoon off, and all Friday, that'll be a rather pleasantly short working week to break me in gently, don't you think?

So, tomorrow it's another call to County Hall to find out just how much money I'll be losing if I go part time on that basis - one day and two afternoons off a week. As a friend last night kindly put it "What you need is a full-time nurse for your dad, a full time nanny for the children, and a full time man for yourself". Actually, what I need is a sudden windfall of about £1,000,000 and a long holiday somewhere warm and relaxing with a good book and my piano!
