Thank you for the music

Excuse me while I just glow with pride for a bit.

Tiddles has just played his keyboard in a concert for the first time and did remarkably well, despite losing his place half way through and hitting a series of wrong chords! It didn't put him off for a moment, and at least he was one of the few to tackle playing the chords at all.

The music centre do a series of concerts each season which means the children from all the different groups and bands get to perform in a concert hall in front of a sell-out audience (mostly of parents, of course, but all the same..) and gain in confidence and expertise by doing it. It was about the fourth concert where Tiddles has sung with the choir, and boy was I proud of him. First time he did it, he was the typical one - the one who didn't know the words, who fidgetted and bobbed about and whispered to his mate, who forgot to look at the conductor, and who was terribly embarrassed about being on stage at all. Tonight he stood there confident and proud. He glistened in his snow-white shirt, black trousers and royal blue Music Centre tie. Shoulders back, head held high, mouth wide open and eyes firmly focussed on the conductor, he sang his heart out. I thought I was going to explode, I was so proud of him. What an achievement!

My boy's growing up!

And today my little one decided that he wanted to try his hand at tapestry. He'd seen me doing mine - something I hadn't done for ages and ages, another rediscovered relaxation - and was desperate to have a go. We went to Busy Bee, the garden centre that specialises in crafts, and he chose himself an aeroplane picture and is now well on the way to filling it in. It looks quite good, actually, and he's getting the hang of where to guide the needle, even if he did nearly take my eye out a couple of times. He's delighted with his results too, so we have two proud boys today.

And me? What have I achieved? Well....... er...... erm..............
