A pleasant Sunday

I am feeling hard done by - I really don't need another cough, thank you very much. I really am going to have to give up smoking. The only trouble is, I'll have to start first in order to be able to give it up. I had another major coughing fit in church (amongst others) and couldn't leave because the preacher had started his sermon by saying how he had had a dream that people started walking out on him one-by-one. I couldn't for shame be the first, as he's a great preacher.

Still, the rest of the day has been good, and I have gained two doughnuts which really ought to be eaten today. Shame the boys didn't have time to eat them.

Tiddles wasn't swimming this morning because of the dressing on his shoulder (which is healing up very nicely, thank you for asking) so I was able to have a slightly calmer time just spectating on one side of the pool. Strange coincidence, Tiddles looked down and spotted his special needs helper from school being lifeguard for the swimmers... and when he said her surname I suddenly realised why the name of the person who'd left a message on my answerphone was so familiar. I asked him if he knew her first name, and he said "I know I'm not supposed to know it, but it's Chris". Excellent. This woman had phoned me from another church for some information about ours and had asked me to call her back. I saved the whole cost of a phone call!

Church went well, and the boys were delighted as one of the old ladies was clearing out her loft and found a load of sports equipment - tennis and badminton racquets and a hockey stick. Immediately she thought of my Smudgelets... and the havoc they could wreak if lethally armed in such a way. Must remember to leave them in the boot of the car rather than transfer them into the garage!

Delight of delights this afternoon - The Sooty Show. Actually, *blush*, it was brilliant! I loved it. It was only as I sat there waving my arm in the air shouting "He's behind you!" and "Izzy Wizzy Let's get busy" that I suddenly remembered I was no longer 6 years old. In fact Tiddles and I were far more enraptured by the whole affair than Smudgelet who obviously thought himself a bit grown up for such goings on. Highlight of the show, for me, was Sweep abseiling down the side of the castle. We were in the centre of the third row back, so we had an excellent view of goings on, and were also just in range for the water pistols. Sadly I had not thought to take my purse so was unable to purchase a Sooty puppet as a souvenir.

Home for a rest - all three of us suffering from our late night last night - and tea and a play outdoors. The Smudgelets kindly helped me by doing the garden. I have prevailed upon them in future to check with me first, as the wrong bed is now half denuded and the soil from it liberally spread across the veranda floor and hall carpet. They did it to say thank you for taking them to the theatre. Thanks lads.

A pleasant end to the evening, sitting between the two of them while Tiddles tried his best at knitting and Smudgelet continued his tapestry. i.e. I spent the evening alternating between retrieving dropped stitches on my right, undoing wrong-direction stitches on my left, and unravelling total indescribable disasters on both sides. My tapestry, needless to say, sat untouched on the coffee table. But somehow the results look quite good so far - of theirs, not mine.

So now they are both fast asleep, looking like little angels, as I sit here and cough and contemplate a nice early night with a good book. Wonder if I'll make it.
