Well, whoever would have thought it. Two computers out of action for different reasons - sasser virus and dodgy battery on the laptop, some weird problem with the PC which has the computer man flummoxed and has resulted in its re-hospitalisation and major transplant surgery. Still, at least it's given me the impetus to get some work done!
This week has been fantastic. I ache all over, except for the typing fingers for once, and would be in bed now if I were still able to move. M and the boys have helped me tackle the garden. We've worked wonders in both our garden and my Dad's. The main task has been to get my hedge under a bit more control. It was rather taking over the garden. A job and a half, mind, as it's a wild hedge (in more ways than one) comprising hawthorn, bramble and briar.... in short, thorns, thorns and more thorns. I have been thoroughly impaled, and several times was attacked from all directions so as to be totally unable to disentangle myself and having to call for rescue from my extremely unsympathetic eldest son. M got a bit carried away on the lower level of the hedge (I was up the ladder doing the higher level) and inadvertantly created a rather pleasant little arbour. I have today negotiated buying a pew from the church to put in there and make it look a little more deliberate!
We've weeded and swept, dug and hoed, chopped and pruned, planted and drunk copious quantities of juice and coffee. Tiddles has done himself really proud, working like a trojan and not caring when he got prickled and scratched. We took three Kangoos-ful of garden rubbish to the tip and still have more to take.
In the middle of all this, Smudgelet had his birthday party. It was a little disappointing that so many of his little friends were on holiday and couldn't join us, but the six children and four adults had a marvellous time at Carisbrooke Castle (and got thoroughly sunburned to boot) and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we extended our picnic for another hour.
Today was the Church Fete. After falling asleep rather early last night and waking just in time to crawl to bed (after a night with no sleep because of tears and nightmares from various Smudgelets... and a terrified Charlie who woke up to find himself locked in a cupboard!).... I had to get up at 5 a.m. to start the baking. Mmmm... It was rather successful. Two quiches and a cheesecake - well, what do you expect from a Methodist?
Good news on the work front. I have today negotiated with the Deputy and, pending the head's agreement, I will be starting back a week on Monday working part time. Hooray!
