My body is in shock! How could I possibly have had the temerity to inflict another session of aquafit on my poor limbs this afternoon - third lot of exercise in a week? Unthinkable! Still, I am starting to see the benefits, slowly but surely. Dad asked whether it was taking a lot of will-power holding my spare tyre in... and I realised that actually I was definitely getting a little less podgy round the middle. Mustn't overdo it, though. Smudgelet made it very clear that he liked having a cuddlesome mummy ("You can start slimming when you're dead, Mummy") so I followed the aquafit with a cake, just to be on the safe side.
This morning was a bit of a dash. I had decided to race to town after dropping Smudgelet at school, and get some photos developed and buy myself a summer dress, and then hurry home in time to do some housework with the cleaner. Huh, fat chance of doing that. First I couldn't find my purse - it turned up in my swimming bag, of course. Then I discovered that dresses are not actually "in" any more... unless you're a twig-like eighteen year old or a dumpy and wide ninety year old. (Any rude comments will be treated with the contempt they deserve). I tried the only dress I found in my size and looked like an extremely big, pink, bag of potatoes. Not only did it clearly show every feminine curve, it also clung to every bit of flab and cellulite. I only needed yellow spots to be Mr Blobby. So there I was racing round from shop to shop, desperately trying to find something decent to wear. It seems as though everywhere's dumbing down. All the clothes I could find were really casual, both for me and the Smudgelets, and finding something smart enough for a wedding or church was a near impossible task. I succeeded, though, in getting a matching top and skirt. So much for economising, I couldn't decide between two of them so I bought them both.
Tiddles had a tantrum tonight. A pretty big one. Fairly short, thank goodness, and ending in a sincere apology and remorse, but fairly violent and for the first time I'm a bit bruised. Hope the legs are OK for wearing a skirt on Saturday! The reason for his tantrum was that I said Smudgelet had to help him tidy the bedroom. I do sympathise - I get on quicker without Smudgelet helping, too - but somehow his younger brother has to learn that he can't just leave all the jobs to someone else to do. He's quite happy to mess about and be sent away from doing the tidying up, even though it's him that makes most of the mess. See, he does have something in common with me after all!
Apparently I've started slipping the clutch when going slow - so declared the AA man when he came out to my car which was bellowing smoke from under the bonnet. Hmmmm I'll take his word for it, but I'm now paranoid about using the clutch at all. I stalled several times on my way to the swimming pool with M this afternoon, much to her amusement.
Right, I am off to bed now. We're off "abroad" tomorrow, so I probably shaln't be around until Sunday evening at the earliest.
And in reply to the comments. Hils and Popsicle, I don't think you're the ones. All the UK readers are counted, and the US and France and Canada, Australia and New Zealand ... so who's my regular long distance reader?
