At last - a warden's holiday in the Church of Fools gives me a chance to post here without feeling guilty that I'm not in a different window, helping the wardening team man the place and maintain it as a safe place during a particularly wearing onslaught of trolling. You know, I even find myself wishing the trolls could come up with something original as I'm not only irritated by their mindless interruptions but I'm more bored at their constant repetition of rather tired jokes. Still, at least it makes the kids I teach look intelligent and well-mannered ;)
My sister came for the weekend rather unexpectedly last weekend. It was lovely to see her, even if I don't actually see a lot of her when she comes these days because she's over at Dad's most of the time. She managed to do her usual look of disapproval at the state of my home, but then she's never had kids. It's water off a duck's back. She'd be a bit more impressed today, mind, as the cleaner and I have had a blitz.
The disaster of the weekend was that her car started leaking brake fluid on the drive while she was here. The garage declared it unsafe to drive and booked it in to repair on Monday. Trouble was, she had to be back in the Cotswolds by Sunday evening! After a great deal of discussion she finally decided that, even though she didn't really trust me to drive her car safely, she hadn't much option. ;) She drove Dad's car to get her home and I am going over on Friday in her car to swap them. The silver lining? Well, Dad expressed an interest in going with her for a couple of days! So I'm fetching him back too! Hence the ability to get on and get some housework done.
It's a bit of a shame that she can't keep him just two more days. The thing is, I'm having another unexpected visitor this weekend, the friend we stayed with in Exeter. The boys are out on Saturday and I am quite looking forward to a bit of "grown-up" time getting to know this new friend a bit better without having to concentrate on the Smudgelets, but it looks as though I'll have to devote a bit of time to making sure Dad doesn't feel tooooo neglected.
Only three more days of school left. The good news is that I finish at 2.45 on Wednesday. The bad news is that, because I need to be home in time to meet the boys from school, I can't go on the school trip and thus have been "volunteered" to stay in school with those who have not been allowed to go. Oh bliss! Is it unprofessional to say I hope they decide not to turn up?
My timetable for next year is almost almost ideal and I really didn't want to moan about it. As requested, they've given me all Maths, and working every day until lunchtime and then going home. What they failed to mention, however, was that they've reorganised the school day so that lunchtime is a lot later and we have a really short afternoon! AAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH! Why do I suddenly feel so paranoid??? Still, it's nice to be wanted, I guess.
Right, time for another bit of dusting, I reckon. At this rate the place should be pristine by the time I retire.
PS. My foot still really hurts, but I'm not going to mention it on the grounds that you'll think I'm a hypochondriac.
