Hmm... it's hard to plan ahead when you're not sure quite what's happening.
This was plan mark 1: On Friday we were going to drive up to my sister's in the Midlands, stay overnight, leave Dad there, and head up to the wedding in the frozen north. Afterwards we were going to pop over to Ireland for a few days, pick Dad up on the way back, and come home for the weekend before going back to work. That was before I discovered I couldn't get a cheap enough flight to Ireland.
Mark 2: Because my sister was driving back and forth to the hospital where my "gran" was after her emergency operation, she didn't feel she could look after Dad for more than a couple of days. The first plan was for me to drive straight home after the wedding, picking him up en route, but he wanted to stay in the Midlands for a little longer. So I was going to ring his friend and see if he could stay a few days there. I was going to come home, then my other sister was going to fetch him on the Friday and me collect him from her house on the Sunday.
Then "gran" died.
Now Dad wants to go to the funeral, as do I really. But my sister's house will be full of my nephews. It won't really be convenient for Dad to stay there at all, and possibly not even for us to stop overnight on our way up north. He will not want to stay a long time with his friend, so if he goes to the funeral then we will have to organise our trip to my sister's around that date. And the date has not yet been decided, partly because she died on a Friday so nothing could be done until today, and partly because she is being buried with her husband and permission has to be sought to open up a grave. So we've no idea when it will be.
Toss into the equation the fact that my ear infection is refusing to heal. The nurse looked in there this evening and declared "Oh my word!" so I think it must be as bad as it feels. I'm on more antibiotics - with anticipated similar side-effects! - and the nurse declared that my eardrum is on the point of bursting again, seeing as it under such pressure from inside that it is bulging madly.
Tiddles is invited to a birthday party on the Tuesday of half term. Will we be here? I don't know. He has Young Archaeologists on the Weekend at the end of half term. Will we be here? I don't know. He has the chance to go scuba diving - yes, scuba diving, the lucky thing! - on the Saturday of half term. Will we be here? I don't know! I don't even know whether to post the wedding present or trust we'll be able to get there.
AAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!
Still, you'll like this - Smudgelet on Friday as we watched the trailers before Shark Tale: Mummy, you know the Harry Potter books? Well, when a new one is written, does Harry Potter get to be the first person to read it? Does he check that it's OK?
