I am sitting here at the computer while the paint dries. Smudgelet and I are having a lovely afternoon making Christmas presents. I'm not telling you what they are, though, as it'd spoil the surprise. A bit frustrating, though, for us to have settled down for a serious making session, only to discover that the first bit of paint has to dry for an hour before you add the next bit. So, having wrestled him off Lego Island 2 and banished him to his bedroom to "play", I finally find myself with a bit of blogging time on my hands.
M is being an utter angel today and has taken Tiddles off for the day to do his homework with him. Honestly, if I'd tried a moment longer I swear we'd not have been doing history, he'd have been history! However many hours does it take to get three paragraphs of writing about the origins of his home village out of a twelve-year-old? She's also taken him to retrieve his coat from the church she took them both to this morning - "That really cool church where they have a drum kit"... another errand of mercy as I was unable to go to church this morning because Dad's ill.
He's really poorly at the moment - despite having had the flu and pneumonia jabs, he's succumbed to a horrible cough and cold which has brought him very low and which set off another major angina attack the night before last, resulting in us calling out the paramedics. They made sure he was OK and stressed that we should see the emergency doctor to get a prescription for Dad's chest. Fine. Easy enough to get a doctor to come out.... not so easy to find a chemist open at the weekend! As if that weren't enough, he managed to have another fall in the night and spent quite a while sitting on the bedroom floor, unable to get up or reach the phone. Fortunately he finally managed to summon up the strength to get back into bed. Anyway, instead of going to swimming and church this morning, I was off on a trip round the Island in search of a pharmacy ... battling my way through the Christmas Shoppers. I did manage to sneak into the garden centre, though, and buy some gorgeously kitschy Santa slippers for my goddaughters. Disappointed they don't sing, though. The slippers, that is, not the goddaughters!
Talking of singing. My boys. Am I proud or am I proud? The two of them last night stood tall and confident and sang at the top of their sweet voices with the County Junior Choir. They looked smashing - and so grown up - and I could hear Tiddles' voice particularly clearly as the music resounded round the auditorium of the local theatre. It was fantastic. He'd told me to pay particular attention to the final song as he was doing a solo, so I was quite nervous as the moment got closer and closer.... I didn't know whether to be relieved or disappointed when his "solo" turned out to be shouting "Let there be light" at the top of his voice! The two of them now are plotting to go round carol singing to the neighbours, as their Christmas gift to our elderly friends in the close. I am so proud to have such lovely boys!
Ho hum... another twenty minutes of watching paint dry......
