The back is feeling a little better. Must be Tiddles' magic massaging touch.

On the down side, I am starting to realise that the doctor's suspicions about another matter may be correct - which will mean an operation. I really can't afford any more time off work, and goodness knows what we'd do about the Smudgelets and Dad if I did. I hate being such a hypochondriac - I really could do with a stretch of feeling fit and well so I can convince myself I'm totally normal.

Superstar Smudgelet is showing signs of a little more awareness of the needs of others, much to my delight. Many children who are adopted when they are older show signs of attachment disorder and this is becoming increasingly apparent in my little one, sad to say. So these little signs of learning to realise that other people are people too are rather precious - acknowledging someone when he first sees them, noticing when a visitor's plate is empty and offering them the sandwiches, letting someone else go first, and today asking if he could do something to raise money for the tsunami appeal.

And this morning you should have seen him swim. Like a little torpedo through the water across the width of the shallow pool, front crawl, then back stroke, then breast stroke, with only a tiny bit of difficulty rolling to the side to breath. Both boys actually need more lessons for a while, but sadly the lessons available for Tiddles are all at a totally inconvenient time and the pool management has decided that they won't allow any but the two named teachers do private lessons. Ho hum... back to taking them swimming on a regular basis I suppose! ;)

They had an Epiphany Workshop at church yesterday. Rather a treat to turn up at the church to collect them, only to see our minister dressed up as the Starman wearing robes and a rather flamboyant (understatement of the year) hat made of a starburst Christmas decoration. Smudgelet declared that he wasn't coming home until the minister promised to wear the hat for the Christingle service this afternoon.... but eventually hunger got the better of him and he gave in.
