I had a brainwave the other day. The lack of ready money to do things like cinema and theatre tickets very often was getting frustrating, so I decided to spend in order to economise while the sales were on. I am now the proud owner of a nicely-priced DVD player - easily justified because renting films is so much cheaper than going to see them and in some ways nicer too, curling up together on the sofa with a box of chocolates and the lights off and sharing a good film together, and our local rental shop (the only one where I can guarantee being able to get the film back before it's overdue) only seems to do DVDs.
Trouble is, I can't work out how to plug it in.
This morning - tantrumming child in the back of the car notwithstanding - I drive into town to pick up the repaired glasses (did I mention he knelt on them?) and to visit Currys in the hope of gleaning some advice. Stupid idea, really. I might have known all the assistants would be far far too busy to attend to a customer. After all, they always are. So on to another electrical shop where they were really helpful. The reason I can't plug my DVD player in, apparently, is because I don't have an adaptor (£30) and the appropriate leads (another £10). Money more urgently needed elsewhere at the moment, seeing as I have severe doubts about the wisdom of using my tumble drier when there's smoke coming out of the back of it!!!!
