She turns up ten minutes late for her Maths lesson.
My classroom assistant asks her where she's been and she explains she's been to fill her water bottle.
(The school encourages children to carry a bottle of water to drink but they are allowed to fill it only at lunch or breaktimes, not between lessons).
Puzzled, the assistant looks at the bottle. "But it's empty, K"
The child is perplexed. She looks at the classroom assistant with a "what language are you speaking" sort of look. So M indicates the bottle and repeats "You said you went to fill your water bottle, but it's still empty. There's no water in it."
Still unsure what the assistant is on about, the child looks at her water bottle and discovers that it is empty.
"My bottle's empty. I'll just go and fill it now, shall I?"
