Tomorrow, at the crack of dawn, I am to go to Dad's and - once he's up and dressed - to dismantle his bed.
Anyone want a perfectly good double bed? Free to a good home, if they can get it over the water to the mainland.
At last we have taken the executive decision to have a proper automatic bed from the hospice for Dad. Yippee!

Tonight, to add to the surreal direction my life seemed to have taken today, the phone rang just as the police arrived at my door. It was my cousin - the cousin I haven't seen for ages and ages, possibly since Mum's funeral. We rarely see each other, don't even know each other very well as he's a generation before me, but the family tie is still really strong. It was lovely to talk to him. He had recieved my Christmas letter and, realising that Dad is in his final stage of life, decided that they'd spent long enough talking about visiting and it was time they got on and came, rather than leave it until they were coming for a funeral. It will be lovely to see them, but it is a bit surreal to think they're driving down from the Midlands for the afternoon on Friday.

Indeed, I think surreal is actually the word for it at the moment. I was talking with my sister about how Dad's confusion is leading him to talk in a really posh voice and with highfalluting phrases - for example, if I ask him if he wants to hold the glass to have a drink, he might reply "I think, on consideration, that there is a distinct possibility that may be a viable suggestion, or there again, maybe not". :) It's funny, if irritating, but as I said to my sister, it does give me a bit of a feeling that I have suddenly fallen down a rabbit hole into Wonderland.
