Oh no, not me.
I was up bright and early to take Tiddles to school after yesterday's fiasco. I knew there were roadworks on the main road, but they were only small, I didn't expect them to have THAT much impact! We drove down to the roundabout and discovered .... gridlock. "Why didn't you go the other way, mum? It'd have been far easier!" Don't you hate these kids, wise after the event? I was faced with a rock and a hard place - either sitting for an hour in traffic trying to get directly to the school (ten minutes' drive from home) or admitting that my teenager might be right. Hmmm... it took a bit of thinking about, but fortunately it was still possible to go round the roundabout and back to the turning to go down the back route, all the while muttering under my breath about how teenagers think they know it all.
Hah! Five million other people had had the same idea! The back route was even worse. Hooray - vindication :D We crawled along, inch by inch.. it took us well over an hour to get him to school and he completely missed first lesson. But there was a little "in-flight entertainment". Smudgelet had sneakily got on the wrong bus, the bus his friend catches rather than the one which arrives just as he gets to the bus stop. He's supposed to go on the first bus that arrives, of course. The bit he hadn't reckoned with? The bus he got on instead goes down the back way to school.... about three cars back from ours, which he didn't notice. No, he didn't notice it, even though he was standing up on the top deck by the front window messing about!!! Oooops! More fuel to the "mummy's always know what mischief you've been up to" premise!
Indeed, Smudgelet is currently living up to his reputation as being very trying!
So yes, I was up early this morning, and managed to achieve things even before we left to take Tiddles to school. On my return I naturally needed caffeine and had just one or two important emails to send. I was just starting work, honest I was, when the phone rang and it was a dear friend I haven't spoken to for a while, who was ringing to see how I was coping now my brother has gone home and my friend M is away. It was so lovely to chat to her and fill her in on recent events. But now what's happened? Yes, I need another coffee - I'd only spill it if I drank it while I worked, wouldn't I? Well, wouldn't I? And besides, I know what I want out of life, and while part of it is to have a bedroom where I can actually get to the bed without mountaineering, another larger part of it is to drink coffee and blog and eat my brother's chocolates without feeling guilty. Well, not about the coffee and blogging, anyway ;)
